Main purpose of the event

Worldwide festival is an event packed with good music and good vibes courtesy. It allowed audiences to experience the latest global music culture normally being appreciated through internet like YouTube and my space. It was also given the title of “Best Outdoor Festival” in Juice Magazine’s annual rundown of the finest. Singapore edition of worldwide festival brings the most inspiring music talent from more than 10 different cities from the world. And with the help Gilles Peterson, the record collector and record label owner from London fuses music from a wide range of genres like minimal to electro, tech house to techno. The main purpose of this event is to spread his influence on music listeners around the world. He uses music as a great unifying force to bring different cultures together regardless of race, colour, language or religion. A festival like this allows music to spread universally and at the same time letting us to experience the pulse of a city. As Singapore is recognised as sunny tropical paradise, organising worldwide festival in such vibrant city is the best spot without a doubt. At the world wide festival, you are bound to expect to catch a variety of today’s most inspired artists to exceptional performers at their best!

Comparison

As compared to the worldwide festival over at France in 2007, they had overwhelming response of more than one thousand participants with just a month of promotion. This could be because their target market was a big and marketable one as compared to Singapore. Perhaps Singaporeans are still not very open to the genre of music that was played during the festival. Ambience and the environment was of the reason why they were able to attract so many people. One of the venues was in a boat repair yard on the sea, the mist from the sea created a unique atmosphere that you simply couldn't have created any other way. In Singapore edition there were some letdown, example cancellation of one of our favourite local acts, and the interruption of our sonic experience by reducing the volume significantly on sound stages.


Best practices

One of the most remarkable things about this event is that one of the venues was launched in one of the most revered cultural institutions, Singapore Art Museum. This was my first time hearing a museum holding such wild music festival it was an unexpected place for worldwide festival to be held at, a full new ambience that definitely attracted a lot of people. Apart from that, this was the first ever 24 hour’s beach party in Singapore! Set against the panoramic Siloso Beach, the event provided a combination of musical delights and family fun for all ages. Adding on to it, there was a selection of international cuisine ranges from Japanese and Brazilian food to Middle Eastern and Spanish delights. The mixture of cuisine apparently was a gastronomic treat for one and all. At the event I was surprised to see kids with parents around, I believed that this is something you might not be able to see in other country during worldwide festival. No one will expect themselves to see kids enjoying in this kind of event, at such young age they might not appreciate the music but they were able to dance and have fun!

This event made the organizer to realize that while we are making improvement and continuing developing our city, we must not neglect the attention and the need of awareness to culture, not just of our own culture but also to the culture revolving around the world. With worldwide, we must not rely too much on internet and worldwide web instead we should bring things beyond the virtual and encourage actual interaction, appreciation and festival experience that will lead and forge new connections with global culture.

Host community-residents whom stay in sentosa and people who will be affected indirectly

During the party there was a sudden drop in volume on both sound stages due to the complaints from the Siloso Beach Resort. As the party last till next morning, volume of the music should be monitored throughout the night. Residents who stay around sentosa still have their rights to sleep peacefully during night time. Considerations for host community should never be neglected because if they were unsatisfied with the event and had bad comments or impression of it, they would not support the host organizer in the future. Beach lovers who always go to sentosa to have volleyball games or tanning will be affected as well, because the place that the event is using will not be opened to the public.

Sponsors

Some of sponsors of this festival were DBS, official beer was tiger and official party spirit was Bacardi and more. Sponsorship is very important and powerful media to communicate and form relationship with stakeholders and target markets; it helps to bring private and public sector organization together. They are known as working business partnerships with the event and festivals management.

Media

Media helps the event to advertise in order to let the public knows about this event. The official Medias are 99.5 fm, MTV, Juice Magazine, Pure Junk, Lifestyle Asia, Mesh Radio and Wander. Media like Pure Junk and Lifestyle Asia are regional media which helps to bring the message across to other country as well. At the same while they are helping this festival to advertise; their names or companies will also be known. This was one advantage to the media sponsors. Another upcoming media is to invite popular bloggers to their event and after which ask them to blog their experience they had at the event.

Co-workers

They were the ones whom help to carry out this whole entire festival. Co workers like securities, people at the front door doing ticketing or people helped to create the ambience or entertaining the guests. Some of the co workers could be volunteers who enjoy participating in this kind of party and wanted to be involved while having fun too.

Participants and spectators

All the participants were those who are fans of the overseas deejays, good music and also the sound of electronic which will the hottest music in the future. Not to leave out our local talents deejays, there was a talent search for them to join in. Some other must be beach party lovers, as we all know that except for zouk out; the hottest party of the year, worldwide festival was the other only time you could party on a beach with great music and the accompany of your friends!

Beneficial impacts of this event

Under economic and tourism impacts, they were creation of employment even though it was temporary job but experience counts too. Through this event, most of the tourists tend to extend their length of stay in order to participate. As tourists spend more time in Singapore they will also increase tourist receipts. There was an increase in tax revenue and commercial activity. When people enter sentosa they were required to pay entrance fees thus increase the revenue of the sentosa.

Under social and cultural impacts, there was shared entertainment experience between the tourists and the local community; this also leads to an increase in community participation and validation of community groups. This event had also help to broaden people’s culture horizon, exposing them to new and challenging people, customs or ideas. Because of this festival Singapore promises a real immersion into music and more.

For physical and environmental impacts, I believed that Singapore did try to keep the seaside as clean as possible so to showcase it to tourists and at the same time maintain the image of Singapore as a green city. There was an increase of environmental awareness too.
